INTRODUCTION
Backworth Stud is a boutique Thoroughbred Horse Breeding establishment, situated near Eston, in the Southern Drakensberg, KwaZulu Natal, South Africa.
Born out of a passion to work with some of man’s most noble animals, Keith Russon and Ian Todd established the breeding operation in 2000. Horses, Owners and Visitors are treated to a visual and spiritual delight, on one of South Africa’s most beautiful properties, where history has seeped in to every core - paddocks nestled amongst avenues of 100 year old trees, vistas towards the Southern Berg, or over the Umkomaas River, and down to the Natal South Coast.
The Backworth Stud livestock benefit from Keith’s 40 years experience in the breeding game, a veterinary background, and horse blood that flows through his veins!

- From a small band of Broodmares, we consistently produce a high percentage rate of Individual Winners to Runners – ave of 61.54%, and Individual Placed Horses ave of 81.54%.
- Bred Grade 2 Winner FIRST AGAIN – 23 starts for 8 wins and 13 places
