Goldkeeper (USA) - Moving On Up (SAF) by Jallad (USA)

The Paul Matchett-trained 5-year-old mare, Raise The Bar (Goldkeeper - Moving On Up), scored a thrilling victory in the Woodland Sprint on sand at the Vaal Thursday. She got up in the dying strides to win on the line from Summer Speedsters winner, Solarium (Var - Red Remedy); going one better in this R125,000 event than a year ago, where she finished a closing second to eventual Banyana Handicap (Listed) winner, Sapphire Ring (Spectrum - Star Sapphire).

Now approaching the twilight of her career, Raise The Bar has been a super performer for her R230,000 purchase price from the 2009 KZN Yearling Sale. Her career record now stands at 8 wins and 14 places from 32 starts, with earnings in excess of R800,000.

Our congratulations go to owner Mr John Koumides as well as to trainer Paul Matchett and his team.

RAISE THE BAR (SAF)
Goldkeeper (USA) - Moving On Up (SAF) by Jallad (USA)

A hotly contested Listed Queen Of The Sand over 1600m on the Vaal sand track Tuesday produced an exciting finish with the Roy Magner-trained daughter of Darley stallion Medaglia D’Oro, Mina Salaam, winning by 3/4 lengths from a running-on Paul Matchett-trained Raise The Bar (Goldkeeper - Moving On Up).

Backworth-bred Raise The Bar’s vanquisher, Mina Salaam, has an impressive race record which includes wins in the first two legs of the Zimbabwean Triple Crown as a three-year-old. She is out of the champion South African mare, Circle of Life, and is a half sister to Grade 1 winners African Lion and Zebra Crossing.

Raise The Bar’s career record stands at 6 wins and 10 places from 22 starts.

Look out for Lot 106 LUCKY BREAK, Raise The Bar’s half brother by Muhtafal, at the 2012 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale.
