Reigning Wave... It's a Tsunami!

On her Poly debut over a distance a little short of optimal, the Backworth-bred Reigning Wave, came from behind to wash her opposition away, scoring an emphatic win in the process for trainer Paul Gadsby with Brandon Lerena up. Congratulations to owner Mr Henk Nel from Thor Insurance Brokers.

A Chilly Western Winter

A Chilly Western Winter

We may be nearing the peak of our Summer season here in KwaZulu-Natal, but Friday night's racing at Greyville sent chills down a few spines as we once again witnessed the class of a South African stallion great of times past, Western Winter.

Lucky Break Dances With Jackson

Lucky Break Dances With Jackson

In an absolute thriller Friday night at Greyville, the ultra-consistant Tony Rivalland-trained Lucky Break was denied victory in the eighth by a dogged Dancingwithjackson and ultimately the fall of a judge’s hammer.

kzn breeders race day rss

Greyville, Durban, South Africa
1 July 2012

The KZN Breeder’s Race Day was a great success - first time running for R1million in the KZN Breeders Million Mile, first time at Greyville Racecourse in the week building up to the Vodacom Durban July, and first time hosted in The Classic Room.

The Classic Room was decorated to embrace the Durban July theme of ‘Material World’ and ‘Sustainability’. There was a party atmosphere amongst the 260 guests who, despite the exciting racing, enjoyed the excellent catering supplied by Harris and Homes, had fun in the Photo Booth, participated in the silent auction for the enticing selection of donated goods, and partook in a session with the Tarot Card reader!

It was a positive endorsement to the enthusiasm and effort that the KZN Breeder’s are making in order to raise the profile of racing and breeding in our wonderful province, and with the further, additional R1million race next July day, things are looking good!!

Right Approach (GB) - Faerie Gold (Zim) by Eton Lad (GB)

Gold Flight was allowed to drift out beyond 2/1 last night at Greyville and although he may have given his owners and supporters some anxious moments, he got the job done quite easily in the end paying a generous R3.30 a win and R1.90 a place. He’s going to be at his best over more ground and still has plenty more improvement to come. Congratulations to owners Messrs Sarkis, Budlender and Molibeli on the win.” Trainer Gavin van Zyl

Gold Flight is a graduate from the Backworth draft of the 2010 KZN Yearling Sale and this win takes the bay colt’s career record to 1 win and 2 places from 3 starts.

Backworth-bred National Yearling Sale’s graduate, Truly Exclusive (Miesque’s Approval - Exclusive Honour) won impressively Tuesday night in a Maiden Plate over 1000m at Greyville. Jumping from the outside gate, jockey Raymond Danieslon remained patient near the rear of the field before producing the bay colt perfectly in the straight to steal line honours for trainer Gavin Van Zyl.

Look out for the Miesque’s Approvals… let’s hope there are more just waiting to come out!
