Ode to an Autumn Evening

Valley views from Backworth Stud / Ian Todd (p)

A horse basks in the suns golden rays,
Its hide burning like fire
While the flame-like sun
Causes the tawny lades of grass to
Throw long shadows outward along
The parched ground.
The once turquoise sky is now painted
With rose, violet, and cadmium
Making the heavens look like a great
Pastel canvas.
The trees, dried grasses, and shrubs
Blaze in the glow of autumn
As the sun sinks silently behind the hill.
