Cetshwayo led a powerful army of young Zulu fighters called “uSuthu” named for their bloodcurdling war cry, “uSuthu” which, when incited during battle, implored the ancestors to beseach upon them the strength and bravery of fallen Zulu warriors.”

…and as the winter chill wanes and the new spring dawns we gaze through the morning mist upon the Zulu hinterland below; from the Indian Ocean in the East to the uKhahlamba Mountains in the North West. And if we’re very still, from the depths of the sacred Umkomaas Valley over the hills to the West, we hear the ghostly war echos of Cetshwayo and his Usuthu… “Usuthu… Usuthu”… as if foreboding the coming of a new Zulu king.

Here is one of our recent arrivals to Backworth, a strong Kahal colt foal out of our mare War Echo, a half sister to Stormsvlei - dam of Pocket Power and River Jetez.
